Terms

The short version, then the long one

Last updated 24 August 2026

Your writing is yours. Use Unfould for your own journal, do not try to break it, and understand that a backup is a convenience rather than a guarantee. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Agreeing to these terms

Using Unfould means accepting these terms, between you and Michael Olubode. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app. You need to be at least 13, and old enough to enter a contract where you live.

What you may do with the app

We give you a personal licence to use Unfould on devices you own or control. It is not exclusive, you cannot transfer it, and we can end it if these terms are broken. Beyond what the law expressly allows, please do not copy the app, take it apart, or hand it on to anyone else.

Because Unfould is distributed through the App Store, Apple’s own terms apply alongside these. Where the two genuinely conflict for an app obtained from Apple, Apple’s terms win.

Your writing belongs to you

Everything you put into Unfould stays yours. You give us no ownership of it, and no licence beyond the narrow permission needed to run the service — storing your entries, syncing them to your devices, and passing an entry to a reflection provider so it can write you a response. The privacy policy says exactly when that happens and to whom.

That permission exists only to operate the app. It ends when you delete the content or your account.

Your account

You are responsible for keeping access to your account secure, including the passcode you set inside the app. App Lock protects your journal from someone holding your phone; it does not replace a passcode on the device itself.

Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into your account.

What we ask of you

  • Use Unfould for your own personal journal.
  • Do not attempt to reach anyone else's entries, or to probe, overload, or reverse-engineer the service.
  • Do not use it to store anything unlawful, or anything you have no right to hold.
  • Do not resell access or run the service on someone else's behalf without our written agreement.

Reflections

Reflections are generated by a language model. They are prompts for thought, nothing more. They are not advice — medical, psychological, legal, financial, or otherwise — and should not be treated as any of those things.

If you are in distress, please talk to a person rather than an app. Unfould is not a crisis service and cannot help in an emergency.

Backups, and being honest about them

Sync exists so your journal survives a lost phone, and we take it seriously. But no backup is perfect, and we cannot promise your data will never be lost.

Unfould lets you export your entire journal as plain text at any time. If your writing matters to you — and we hope it does — keep your own copy.

Paid features

Writing and reading your journal is free. Reflections, voice, photographs, and Journal Memory are part of Unfould Pro: 7 days free, then $59.99 USD per year. Prices vary by region and the current one is always shown in the app before you buy.

The parts everyone should know before subscribing:

  • Apple charges you, not us. Payment is taken by your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
  • It renews on its own, for the same period and price, unless you switch off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple bills the renewal within the 24 hours before that date.
  • A free trial converts into a paid subscription on the same terms unless you cancel before it ends. We will warn you inside the app before that happens.
  • Cancel through Apple — Settings, your name, Subscriptions — or from You → Plan in the app. Deleting the app does not cancel anything.
  • Refunds are Apple’s to give, under the App Store’s policy rather than ours, because Apple holds the payment.

We may change the price. A change never affects a period you have already paid for, and Apple will ask you to agree before it takes effect.

If you stop paying, nothing is deleted. Writing, reading, searching and exporting keep working — the paid features simply stop.

Ending things

You can stop using Unfould whenever you like, and delete your account from inside the app. That removes your entries, photographs, and recordings, and it cannot be reversed.

We may suspend an account that is breaking these terms or putting the service at risk. Unless the law prevents it, we will tell you why and give you a chance to export your writing first.

When things end, the parts of these terms that are meant to outlast them do — who owns what, the disclaimers, and the limits on liability.

What belongs to us

Your writing is yours. The app around it is ours — the software, the design, the name, and everything we wrote to make it work. Nothing here hands you any of that beyond the licence above.

The services we rely on

Unfould stands on other companies’ services — hosting, sign-in, payment, and the models that write reflections. Using the app can mean their terms apply to you as well, and we are not responsible for how those services behave. The privacy policy names each of them and says what it receives.

The legal necessities

Unfould is provided as it is, and as it happens to be available. To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties. We do not promise the app will be uninterrupted or free of faults, and we do not promise a reflection, a pattern, or a search result will be accurate — a model can be wrong about you.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, nor for lost data. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before it.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction — save that a consumer may bring proceedings where they live.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will give you notice in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Unfould afterwards means accepting the new version.
